probably brass if it was not a 'Saab' key. Most copy cats are soft brass and it cannot hold up to the stiff spring in the ignition for too long. The door lock comes out pretty easily (IIRC, you are on the NG board and are pretty handy) remove door panel (bunch of torx screws) peel back plastic cover, remove a couple of lock levers, remove clip and teh lock just falls out. I think it has a screw in the back which holds the tumbler in the shell, but regardless, you will get it out at this point. If you do get the car, get a key made at the dealer and insist on steel. Those flimsy brass ones scare me for this reason. It is easy enough to add keyless entry on these and I have not used my door key since I converted the Saabguard to KE. good luck
