Terminology lesson: Rear engine seal means the crank seal at the fywheel end of the engine.
So, in SAAB C900s and 99s, the back of the engine points towards the front of the car.
He has NO exerience with SAABs??? You should be concerned. Make absolutely sure that he protects the radiator when he prys out pulls the primary shaft - he can put a nice hole in it that will cost you yet more money.
Also, make sure he replaces the primary shaft seal on the transmission and cleans up the bellhousing before he puts the clutch in.
Good luck
