If your car has high mileage, I would not roll in a new chain. You may have additional problems, like worn guides. Rolling in a new chain will mask the guide issue for a short time untill the noise comes back. The front cover should be removed to inspect the guides, this can be done in the car. What makes you think your chain is bad?
