If they are original shocks they are probably shot. A cheap way to find out is to install the red polyurathane version of the lower shock mount bushing and then ride it a while, see if that is all you need. But as long as you are under there doing all that work, throwing the shocks in is the best thing to do, especially at Jim's prices. Upper bushings can also go allowing chrome damper rod to rattle in body. Recommend you stick with the Boge turbogas.
I had done all the ball joints, tie rods, poly sway bar end bushing and rebuilt axles last summer. Shocks were done the year prior, but my ride compliance was still not good after all the new parts; Jim suggested the poly bushing and it was all that was needed.
I wish I had taken more time to replace the wheel bearings and inner drivers last summer just to make it complete.
Also check your motor mounts, front and passenger side tend to go and then engine bounces around. Let us know how you make out.
