How do ya remove the slave without any pressure

My slave cyl is leaking very badly, so I was going to rebuild it if possible. However, as I understand is you have to disassemle the whole clutch to get it out. First up, is this true? I really only need the slave, the clutch only has 5K mi since rebuild. Or will my disk be contanminated with hyd. fluid and need to be replaced anyway?
Second, I hear that you have to get the special tool in place by compressing the stack. How do you do this without any pressure? Someone else told me you can cut the slave in half and slip it out instead, but then I can't rebuild it. Also then how do you get it back together since its not compressed with the spec. tool in place.
Many thanks for advice....
