weird hesitation while driving

I have a 91 900S, non-turbo with 139,000miles. I'm experiencing a hesitation problem. Last week while driving at around 55mph downhill I felt the car hesitate briefly but then everything was fine after that. Next day I noticed it a couple times on the interstate. And yesterday it got worse. I was on the interstate, cruise control set at around 70 and it hesitated several times. On my way home I tried to set the cruise again and the car just seemed to feel like it was driving on a bumpy road if I set it too high and it would go away if I let off the accelerator. I made it home and had to drive it briefly this morning. The hesitation seems to happen at moderate rpm's like between 2 and 3. But with a more open throttle it doesn't seem to do it.
I don't know if this is related, but when I've been driving with the cruise control and don't shut the switch off and come to a stop the engine idles at 2rpms untill I switch it off. This has been going on for awhile. The last week I've noticed that sometimes the engine idles at 1 1/2rpms for a few seconds when I come to a stop before dropping to 1rpm.
I'm sorry about such a long post. I just thought include as much as I could think of.
