Do you know how old the O2 sensor is? Sensors can go bad by getting very sluggish, so they read OK at idle. That might explain why it didn't change when you revved. I get code 12112 more often as the sensor ages. With an old VW, you gotta know how to splice wires, so you can buy the generic sensor... search for posts about that & check the friendly SaabNet sponsors.

AIC valve, silver cylinder near the engine lifting lug. Remove it, spray the guts with carb cleaner to clean it real good. Make sure the rotor turns freely.

Keep looking for vacuum leaks, especially the rubber grommets at the hose nipples in the intake manifold. Other places... after parking for a while, check for the brake booster still having vacuum. Also park for a while & check that there's still vacuum in the reservoir for the dashboard vent dampers. I can park overnite, & still have vacuum to operate the vent controls & the brakes.

PCV & oil cap... The crankcase should stay close to atmospheric, since the big PCV hose goes to the intake upstream of the throttle. Air that's drawn into the engine is limited by the resistance of the small-diameter hose to the throttle body. There's not really a PCV "valve". I think yours is normal for that.

How old are the spark plugs, wires, cap, & rotor? Ours seems to to be pretty sensitive to that. After dark, with the engine cold, take off the sparkplug cover, turn off the lights, start the engine & look for arcing. Others have suggested spraying water from a windex bottle to make it more visible.

Check electrical grounds, especially near the front engine lifting lug, & on the crossbar under the radiator near the battery. The idle control system needs a good tachometer signal & these grounds seem to be capable of messing it up.

BTW, welcome as a new Saab owner. I've enjoyed VW's in the past... When I was in college, we had a '67 Squareback that turned into orange powder. One day the headlite just fell out! Our '82 Rabbit & '86 Jetta GLI were nice cars.
