OK...now i have been hearing alot of crap from youy about how the 900s's are pretty much underpowered and sluggish. Well i dont buy it, pre 91 900S are hard tp deal with...they are superslow, yes BUT HOW ABOUT ALL THOSE 91-93/94conv "S's". I drove 3 pre 91 900's cars of all configurations and i was ready to stop shopping for a Classic 900. I didnt want a turbo 900 cause i knew it would break like anything else with a turbo on it.
***FYI- turbocharged engines are 100%kick ass and its by far my favorite way to drive, i love the linear power delivery and the vicious torque. only problem is i didnt want to deal with the extra probability of problems seeing as this car is my only one and im going to college in a matter of weeks, (months then) ALSO i knew i'd have a much better time finding a good transmission on a non turbo.****
Funny enough i didnt know there were 2 kinds of 900 "S" and even though i had lost interst in a N/A saab due to hidious preformance i went to test drive one more cause the owner was super nice on the phone and i said i was coming. WELL you see...it was a 1991 and i test drove it and almost sheared all four bolts off the front wheels. I was stunned....it was really a whole lot faster than the pre 91's. After spending 2 and a half hours with the owner and lengthy inspections i offered 3000 for a awsome 91 900S and i got it. i think the stigma of the slow 900S needs to die...slow 900"S" were extinct back in 1990.
JUST today my 900S suprised me with its brutish acceleration....ok well first of all i spent a ton of time detailing the car and it got me all pumped up to drive it more....but i needed a place to go so i headed out to the sports authority for some dumbells. i get them and then on the way home!! im driving down this relativly strait road that goes on a long ways... in front of me is a early 90's acura vigor V-6... the idiot driving it lites a cigarette and starts ashing it out the window at 50mph. I was like oh thats nice.. as i look down at my stickshift..(5th gear). he ashes 2 more times and the 3rd hits me right on the windsheild direct on the line if sight. (keep in mind i spent the afternoon detailing the car) i looked up the road....doubleclutched a 5-3 downshift in about 800miliseconds floored it and dipped into oncoming lane(yes it was a passing zone) i get in the guys 8 o'clock and he whips his head around to see what the hell was going on because my K/N cone filter mounted underneath the driver side headlight was screaming curse words at him in its own language. i was ahead of him before that POS even kickshifed down a gear to stop me. (bastard can kill non-saab driving people by accelerating when someones trying to pass...I wanted to chuck one of my new 30lb dumbells out the window so bad once i was in front of him.
so yea... i think my 900S is fast and all you turbo guys should too....sure its not gonna pass you but it doesnt have to cause i know none of you ash out the window at 50mph with freshly washed C900's behind you.
2nd event
about 10 min later i approach a light and its 2 lanes BUT the right lane ends almost imediatly after the light so everyone is affraid to use it. Traffic is backed up about 70 cars... <Damn atlanta suburb> I usualy only get in the right lane at that light if im driving my mom's 99 9-5 and even that has a hellova time getting up and into the left lane before the car in the left lane gets to the end of the merging curb.
Today in my 900 i was like what the hell.... so i move up past 70 cars and get in the right lane.... i scope out my competition as i get closer... an older Volvo 740 Turbo intercooler...oh thats nice i say....probably just someones mom. WELLLLLL... no it was someones mom's teenage son.... Being a teenager myself i wasnt worried. I tried to avoid looking like anything atall so the idiot didnt think he had a better swedish car than me and FLOOR IT. well light turns green and i dont take any chances and i scuff the tires off the line and redline shift 2nd.......WELLLLLL turns out little volvo buddie floored that swede and he spun the tire alittle off the line and i could hear his turbo spinning like a cow in a tornado. I was like oh shit...and thaught about slowing down but it ended up that i had enough room to get over and alas i did....that volvo wouldnt call it a loss though...it rode my ass the rest of the way up the road and then went to pass me as fast as it could in the newly opened left lane about 3miles up the road....but some unknowingly chevy astro driver jumped in that lane with no signal and the speeding volvo had to mash the brakes...then i turned into my neighbor hood right up on the left thus ending my excelent trip to the sports authority in a CLEAN 900S
