I have an '89 SPG - Black w/ Grey Leather - 120K (long) Posted by Wil W [Email] (#1148) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Wil W) on Thu, 18 Jul 2002 14:09:07 In Reply to: Anyone have an '89 SPG?, gordon [Profile/Gallery] , Thu, 18 Jul 2002 03:35:22 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I love the car despite spending several thousand fixing it. I paid a little more than I should of for it, but PO said he had just done the head gasket and my mechanic checked it over and everything seemed ok except for normal wear stuff: CV, balljoints, headliner, etc. After 1 month of owning the car, spent about 1500 fixing all the little stuff when it starts smoking like crazy. Turns out the PO's Head Gasket Job was TRASH! Gasket was on wrong (one of the bolts was jammed through the gasket not the bolt hole), my mechanic had to redoe the job as well as have several cylinders re-machined due to the damage of the Bad Head Job.
I've changed my dash w/ a crack free one and swapped the anoying auto seatbelts to regular ones. I love the car, but now the A/C quit working and I see freon by the compressor pully. Oh well the joy of owning a 13yr old car.
Now with most of the stuff fixed (several thousand later) the car runs great and I love the car... Waiting to get some income before adding more $$ to it. Need to tint the car windows and fix the A/C (Black on Black is REALLY HOT) as well, install a alarm/keyless entry.
But despite paying several thousand more than I should have for the car (Price + Repairs), I love it now, just some bad luck due to PO. I think the $3500 asking price is a pretty good deal. Just budget some money for the normal repairs.
My $.02
