I haven't heard that Copper is used in headgasket, is that something new or an old wifes tale?
All the OEM and Elring gasket uses steel in the combustin chamber reinforcement.
And using JB weld for the repair isn't gonna work. (In my opinion)
If you have seen several of the engine blocks, you have also seen that the corroded area starts at the coolant passages, and the corroded area is always sloping down into the passage.
If you would to put a blob of JB weld there, it would come lose and slide into the coolant channel because nothing is supporting the JB-weld from the extreme pressure when head is torqued.
You have to think like a dentist and start with grinding a bigger hole in the block to build up supportwalls for the JB-weld.
The Saab bullentin is just a quick fix that they came out with, and I wouldn't be surprised that when the headgasket jobs start to come back, we will end up seeing that the JB-weld is nowhere to be found.
Or maybe blocking a coolant channel.
