Gotta keep the 1982. There's not many of us around. It's either one of the componants - water pump or radiator - or you have a clog in the block. I don't know how easy it is to clear out the block if so, but replacing the radiator is rather easy. The radiator in your case is the likely suspect. When I bought my 82 used, among the things I overhauled was the radiator. It was filled with some nasty junk, and from how the water flowed between the two openings after flushing I assumed it was all better. But a consistant higher than normal running temp remained. Never overheating (mostly because I never pushed it while hot), just running hot. Then the radiator sprung a small leak and I replaced it. Hot run problem solved.
