It seems to me that if the LH ECU is not getting a tach signal, then it would NOT fire the fuel injectors, either. Or am I missing something? Since the engine ran well with the fuelpump jumper, I'd concentrate on checking those parts of the ECU which supply ground to the FP relay.
I don't have the wiring diagram here, but I vaguely remember that there's more than one ECU terminal which is connected to ground. Look at your wiring diagram & check for loose/corroded grounds. My wiring diagram is '89 anyway, so it may be different.
I guess I'm not much help yet, but maybe this'll start the ball rolling...
