hot re-start problem

My wife's beloved 1987 900T convertible has been mis-behaving lately. Sometimes on hot days after she drives it and parks it in the hot sun for an hour or less, she turns the key to re-start it and there is nothing, except the red idiot lights on the dash. Then she turns the key to off, and re-turns it to start and on the 2nd or 3rd try it starts right up and runs fine. What is up with this? Battery is fine. Only happens in hot weather after it has been driven. Thanks, guys. Val
