Check the short black ground wire from the alternator frame to the block and the ground point on the side of the shifter/ignition switch housing. Also those grounds mentioned by others.
BTW the tach gets its signal from the ignition system. Your rebuilt alternator should have come with new brushes, but you can check them just in case.
