shipping a car is big bucks - cost me 800+ to ship one cross country some years back.
i believe the upgraded pinion bearing is for 88 and earlier cars only - what year are you looking at?
if u are serious about getting a decent car to restore, consider looking somewhere that has no salt. after having left the east coast, i'll never buy a car again that has even a speck of rust on it. too much work, and you'll never get it all (ever been west? amazing to see cars on the road that are 30+ years old with no rust to speak of). would be easier if body panels were bolted on a la volvo, but they ain't. once went nearly insane trying to bring an east coast 99 back to life - depressing to keep finding more and more and more rust.
also, does it have to be an spg? except for 3 spoke rims (now on ebay for less than $200), cladding (usually available & for ~$600), various interior appointments and, on later models, several extra hp, they are no different than any other saab turbo. if i were in your position, i'd look for a clean, straight car with a blown motor/gearbox somewhere, get it back home and go to work.
