I bought my first Saab last month, and suddenly I am being honked at by fellow Saabers and I'm noticing them everywhere...though "everywhere" may not be the best way to describe it since there are very few of us on the road compared to other Euro cars. In fact, in a six hour round trip from Springfield, Illinois, to Lafayette, IN, I only saw THREE other Saabs on the road (two 9000s, one 900). I saw about 30 Volvos (I own a 740 Wagon, so I see bricks "everywhere" too), about 20 BMWs, and about a dozen Audis and Mercedes. I've always kind of envisioned Saab owners to be 20-somethings and 30-somethings, a little eccentric and awkward in personality, maybe a little unkempt in appearance, but generally intelligent and pithy. Kinda like a Tim Burton movie, maybe. I also thought of Saab owners as having a bit more money than the rest of us, as Saabs were often lumped together with BMWs and Mercedes as one of the choices of the more affluent. Now that I own a Saab and a Volvo, and I am certainly not affluent myself, my perspective has changed maybe a little. Volvo owners are those I consider to be very meticulous and meddling, but also kind-hearted and generous. They are driven by late 30s and mid-40s upper middle class folks with younger teen children. BMWs and Audis are driven by very cool but also snobby, supercilious guys who are more concerned with appearance and style than funtion. Mercedes are for the untouchable class who not only think they are better than us, but they probably are better than us. What are some other perspectives you all might have of the "typical" Saab owner? How would some of you rank Saabs in terms of "status" cars, or where do we rank as far as "coolness" compared to the other Euro cars? I'm looking for some objectivity, if that's possible.
