faulty Battery or alternator?

Hello everyone
Just got my car (900 turboi 16 conv Aero '92) after an engine rebuid. After a EU trip (Italy to London, where I live - 1300 kms) I get [/b][/b]an electrical fault with the following sequence (all within a few minutes
1. Start the car, drive around for 1 hour
2. while driving, radio switches off for a few seconds, then comes back fine
3. "Check engine" light comes on for a few minutes, then switches off
4. brake lock light switches on for a few minutes, then switches off.
5 Radio switches off again and does not come back
6. Engine begins to rev down, cannot accelerate. and after a few hundred meters, dies
7. After a few hours, tird to switch on engine, eveything fine.
8 leave car on for a few minutes, same process again (points 1 to 6), even with car stopped in parking with engine at minimum.
Any idea whether this could be the battery that is actually dying/dead or the alternator?
Thanks in advance for your help. Will be appreciated as Saab dealers in London are quite expensive.
Also, if I need to replace battery, how many amperes & which brand should I go for? (possibly a heavy duty one?)
regards,
Giovanni
