I had a similar problem. I replaced the battery first (least expensive), and then the alternator. My guess is the alternator because the car dies while you're driving. If you are mechanically inclined you can perform the troubleshooting tasks yourself. In the U.S. there are auto parts stores that perform free component testing to help you isolate the problem (of course you have to remove them from the vehicle first). Perhaps there are similar stores in the U.K. ? In any event, it's all just guesswork until you isolate the piece that failed. If you're up to the challenge of repairing it yourself, email me and I can give you some specifics. Otherwise, your Saab dealer is the sure bet on getting the problem resolved with the least amount of headache (and the most amount of cash). Good luck with everything.
