I've done it too - more Posted by JimBlake [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Fuel pump which one?, Jim King, Wed, 14 Aug 2002 22:54:28 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The rubber hose inside the assembly (on my '89) was fastened at each end with crimped steel hose clamps; I had to cut them off. Like burlyb said, get new o-rings for the hose fittings outside the tank.
When I put my new pump in, nothing fit together properly. I had it apart too long & all the rubber parts had shrunk. I had to soak them in a jar of gasoline so they would swell up again.
Since the hose clamps are so close to the electrical connectors, I used plastic ties as hose clamps. After about a week, they swelled up & came off. DUH. So I had to take it back out. Then I used normal stainless screw-type hose clamps. Just be careful to orient them away so they won't short the electrical leads for the pump.
