Sounds like your Tranny is in need of a Rebuild

Yeah, not being able to put it into 5th is a classic sign of a tranny that is going downhill. My guess is that your pinnion bearing is gone or about to go, when the pinnion bearing wears out 4th and 5th get messed up.
You can determine if your pinnion bearing is shot by listening to see if your car make a whinning sound at high speeds. If that is the case I would not recommend driving 800 miles cause that will do serious harm to your tranny (probably make it unrebuildable) because the pinnion and differential will get buggered up.
Anyway, with 190k on your car it would not be a bad idea to rebuild the tranny anyway. Usually the OG900 trannies go around 120k-150k so it seems that yours has been babied.
Good luckwith getting back to Indiana.
