linkage. Look at the connection where the pin goes into the shaft which goes into the tranny and if there's play, you've found the problem. AND/OR the problem is inside the tranny where the detent spring is, but that's more work. If the gearoil is clean (check the dipstick for metal flakes etc), you can still drive it home, but only in fourth on the highway.
