Shifter adjustment

I'm trying to fix three problems on my '86t five speed.
1. The shifting is mushy.
2. Can not find 5th.
3. The key will come out in any gear or position.
Here's where I'm at:
I Have the Bentley & printouts from Townsend. Removed the shift lever & inspected all the parts. Did not find any broken springs or anything out of the ordinary. Adjusted the bottom pin to 22mm. Replaced the funky three sided nuts. Placed the punch in the 6mm hole while the shifter was in reverse. I can now positively state that I can not find any gear. @#*!#&*, Where did I go wrong? How can I get to a new starting point, other than take it to a good SAAB mechanic?
TIA
