Anyone ever R&R'ed shift rod firewall boot? '90 900>

Hi all,
My Mom has a 1990 900 (base, 3-dr) which apparently had a ham-fisted mechanic work on it for the previous owner...

The problem I'm alluding to is the shift rod firewall boot is missing--completely! Since this 900 is newer than '88 (when the e-brakes went to rear) it's the type where no cables need to go through it, which nixes the possibility of (properly) using the shift rod boot from my '84 parts 900S. The space where the shift rod exits the firewall is completely open. A lot of toasty engine compartment air rushes into the cabin at highway speeds (which will become a COLD air rush in a couple months with winter approaching). I'm afraid if this problem isn't addressed (and SOON) then she'll have a rusty floor pan in her 900 directly.

So, how do I go about replacing this boot, and where do I get the boot? (I don't think this procedure is in the 16V Bentley book.) Am I looking at taking the shift rod coupler apart, slipping boot on, and then only having to recouple rods & adjust shifter? Or do I need to acutally pull out the shift rod to get the boot on?

Would SobStory or Trollhattan Auto Parts, etc. have this part? (Maybe I just need to call 'em!)

I'm kind of in the dark here. The most I've done in this dept. is adjusting the shifter, not an awful job in itself. Any ideas or pointers will be greatly appreciated.
