Buying a wreck

A fellow in my apartment building got into an accident with his '89 Saab 900 turbo convertible. Having myself driven an '87 non-turbo in the past, and having enjoyed it, I announced my interest, but his incomplete response leaves me without any true knowledge of the vehicle's condition, other than visual review.
The car's passenger door is bashed in, the front passenger-side bumper is dented but not bashed, the rubber/plastic wrap-around from the front bumper to the right front wheel well is missing, and the hood appears sprung about an 1/2 inch sideways. The owner says he can barely start it.
So-o-o: should I continue to show an interest in this car? Could the frame have been bent? What else might be wrong? Is the door too much to replace or pull later on?
My immediate interest is that the car is right in front of me - no need to search for it or haggle (much), plus I already like & am familiar with Saabs of that vintage.
Thanks for any tips.
