its not necessarily horrible if you get the brake/abs light for a few seconds at startup.

do the test of "how many pumps till the lights come back on" to see what kind of shape the accumulator and pump are in. Let the pump run for a solid 2 minutes after starting without using the brakes, then brake hard repeatedly and see how many strokes it takes to get the lights on. should be 10+ for a decent system. I have like 7-8, and I would consider that borderline. As a reference, ive never had any trouble stopping whatsoever in 3 years of having the car (92 900s), so the 7-8 range could be safe depending.
