I am looking at similar cars (88's and 90's mostly) of varying conditions, spg all.
if you look up the blue book value of these cars, it tends to hover between 3300 and 4000 depending on the miles and condition of the car. What you will find is that some people have ridiculously high asking prices. And often, there will be buyers that will pay what they are asking. That doesnt mean that you have to, but it does mean that it can be hard to find a car that is selling at its real value.
Ask yourself why you really want an SPG. If its just because its a low mileage turbo, then perhaps you should be looking at just that ... a low mileage turbo. For the SPG panels you'll find yourself paying thousands extra for a car in good condition.
93k is on the low side for miles on a 90 spg. THe car seems like it is in great shape, and the fact of the matter is that there were only like 140 of that color imported that year (it may even be 40, i cant remember and Larry's spg page wont load at the moment). So its a bit of a collectors item. The other thing is, the owner has probably had to spend a decent amount of money to maintain the car and wants to get some of that back if he can. To be honest, thats him trying to beat the system, because the truth is that a car is not a financial investment, its a luxury, and any money he spent on it is really not something he can expect to recoup. Unless he finds a buyer who is willing to reward his diligence, since it really is a fantastic car.
So the best I can say is, a car in the condition it is supposed to be in, with that many miles, is very rare. Because of that the owner can command a higher price if he is patient enough to find a buyer. Your friend will have to decide whether she is willing to pay for that. She could probably get the same car without the SPG marque for 70% of the price, or less.
I'm sure other people will have opinions as well, but its a gut kinda thing. If she doesnt "need" the spg, and can wait for the right car, id say probably wait on it. If she wants that car because of its lineage, and its heritage, and can afford it, by all means go for it. But the bottom line is its a luxury, and you'll be paying for the pedigree of the car as well as its condition.
good luck,
Dave
