I'd follow Matt's lead. The window switches take all the motor current, and the contacts pit up. Since only the driver's window isn't working, try swapping the driver's switch for the passenger side switch. If the window now works, you know the switch needs cleaing. Pop it open, gather up the springs and bits, and clean the contacts.

If swapping the switches doesn't do the trick, then it could be the motor, or it could be the wiring. Remember, there is wiring and a connector at the door jamb. That wire flexes, and the connector is somewhat exposed to the elements. Make sure you've got good contacts there.

Chase down the electricals first, before you worry about the mechanicals. If you don't already have one, get the Robert Bentley manual (http://www.bentleypublishers.com/product.htm?code=S993). You can also get it cheaper mailorder from other places. It is by far the BEST manual you can get for the car, and the electrical schematics will be invaluable.

I doubt the problem is the motor. They don't fail often - it's usually electrical. But if it does end up as a motor, I'd find one from a junkyard. Since they don't usually fail, a junker one would be fine. Get as much of the mechanism as possible, but leave the glass behind. I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure that just about any motor '87-93 (and '94 convertable) will be fine. Probably earlier years, but I'll cut off at '87 to be safe. You can mail order salvage parts from places like Goldwing (http://www.goldwing.com).

All you need to do is remove the inner panel and swap out the mechanism. Yes, it's tricky, but with patience you'll win the day.

But I bet it's just a switch.
