'87 wheels are compatible with later ones... it was '88 they changed.
Aside from the styling changes, '87 saw the introduction of the adjustable seat heaters, front vented rotors across the board, and swaybars on non-turbo models (IIRC).
As for aftermarket wheels - check out Motegi. They are made by American Racing, but they are nice looking and have respectable weights. I'm running MR-8s on my '86 900S. 16.5lbs each for 16x7 wheels, and I think they fit the character of the car. Of course, any wheel that will fit '92-'97 Honda Prelude will fit a -'87 Saab, so you should have no trouble finding them. You'll probably need spacers as Honda wheels have a substantially greater offset than Saabs.
