I have updated brakes in the past (on my '87 SPG) but opted not to do so on the 2-door. I'm in California, so the brakes don't tend to live a hard life - I've *never* had problems with the front e-brake at all, and that includes at least five or six cars equipped that way.
In the case of the 2-door, specifically, I chose to retain the old-style brakes because a) I have a set of Wilwood 4-pot Ultralite calipers to go on there, and b) the wheel selection for the old bolt pattern is *enormous* compared to the new bolt pattern.
In terms of fun, I don't tend to use my e-brake to enjoy myself. Stiff springs, good shocks, sticky rubber, and tight handling do it for me. The opportunities for me to take freeway onramps at 60+mph far outweigh the opportunities to do e-brake spins.
Plus, I always have the '90 SPG for *that* kind of fun. :)
