What is a Petcock? Which is the left/right side?

I was just reading through Townsend's site in preparation for my coolant system flush this weekend. He refers to a Petcock, what is a petcock (please, no lude comments!!), is it simply another name for a drain plug?
Also, he refers to the petcock as being on the right hand side of the radiator, i assume that when refering to part locations it's from the vantage point of when you are sitting in the driver's seat?
Lastly, i know i have to drain from bottom of engine block as well (is that right, i know there's a second drain plug that needs to be done). Is this plug/bolt easy to find. How hard is it typically to get off, will a breakerbar be necessary, as i'll be doing the job at my parent's house, and let's just say i'm on my own (as in almost everything i learned is from this site, my dad has never worked on his own car, and the tool assortment at their house is virtually non-existant).
Thanks, and hopefully some people will be on this board Sat afternoon for the unexpected problems that always seem to arise!
