Coolant leak in 88 900S Posted by DOUG [Email] ![]() ![]() |
I experienced a problem today and would like anyone's input as to what might be wrong. Outside temperature around 81 degrees. I did not notice that my car was running hot. Pulled into the golf course to play a quick 9 holes and dropped a ball that rolled under my car. Noticed coolant dripping near left front tire. Opened hood to see coolant coming from the overflow chamber (at first I thought it was the hose, but after letting it cool, the hose was not the source) as though boiling over. Put in about 20 oz. of water after letting engine cool down (about 20 minutes on putting green...never got onto the course). Drove home and did not have problem. I checked to see if fans were on, they actually came on while idling about a minute after return trip home. They ran for about a minute and shut off. I have noticed that temperature gauge has been riding about half-way lately, when for most of the time I've owned this car it has stayed about a third of the way up. Should I do a flush and refill, or is it likely that my radiator is going bad? Could my thermostat have gotten stuck but still operated fine on return trip? I've never had any problem like this before, and have done no work recently that should have affected fans, thermostat, radiator or coolant levels. Thanks for your ideas.
