Had same problem on first clutch I did 7 years ago. A dremel will cut the seal so it comes out easily. Since I bodged the seal mounting edge with the dremel, I put a dab of high temp RTV where the nick was and had no leak problems. Not sure if the RTV was really necessary.
On subsequent clutch replacements on our other 900's, I have had success with a big 18 inch craftsman screwdriver. The seal will normally will pop out on the first try if you catch the lip and lever with max force. I don't think I was agressive enough on the first one and managed to bend the lip so there was nothing to grip on. Sounds like that's where you are!!
Be sure to grease the splines on the clutch shaft to protect the new seal when the shaft is inserted. The grease will also prevent the clutch disk from hanging up against pressure plate or flywheel causing dreaded reverse gear crunch.
