Passenger seat heater

My '94 900s conv. has had a broken passenger seat heater for some time. Took it apart today and found good continuity in the wire. However when I bypassed the little round switch (?) that you sit on - voala! Heat!
Questions -
How does this switch work?
Do I NEED to replace it or can I leave it bypassed? (I know it will come with the drivers side)
There doesn't seem to be a thermocouple in the passenger seat, so I assume it uses the drivers side for control.
Thanks.
