Randy 3
Saab 1

Broken off "drill style" EZ outs: 2
Ruined, but not snapped off, fluted EZ Outs (Craftsmen screw extractors): 2
Broken/Bent Drill Bits: 20+

I got 3 bleeder nipples replaced with speed bleeders (http://www.speedbleeder.com)

1 came out with a with a wrench

2 snapped and I drilled out and used a #3 Craftsmen Fluted Screw Extractor. Not an EZ time with an EZ out, but they came out. "EZ" is a lie. The rust holding the buggers in was near the outside. The bleeder was not at all seized inside the caliper.

The real pain was the one with the 2 snapped EZouts in it. I drilled all around the EZ outs and used a magnet to remove the broken pieces. After 3 hours of drilling and pounding, I thought I was almost there. I ran the drill a bit too long and then struck brake fluid. I just gave up, came in, and ordered a new caliper from eeuroparts online store. good thing I'll be on the road on business mid-week so I won't lament not having a convertible! the part will show up and I'll be ready for next weekend.

Lessons Learned:
-DO NOT use the reverse drillbit style EZ Outs!!!! They're like peanut brittle.
-Wear a facemask (or goggles) when doing this type of metalwork.
-A #3 Fluted Style EZOut does the trick when the hole is centered and the right size. A hammer and patience help, too.
-Drill bits are only good for about 20 seconds, then they're dull or broken.
-DIY jobs like this are a good excuse to get more tools in the garage. "But, Honey, Look at the money I'm saving. I'll need the tools to do the job right."
-Make sure you have spare bleeder nipple(s) on hand when doing this job. I had speed bleeders waiting for installation anyway...

Question:
The caliper that gave me no problems was still hot when I removed the bleeder. Could that be a factor in how easy it was? Is this like the case of the oxygen sensor that's easy to remove when hot, but a b*tch to do when cold? Maybe when I bleed my SPG I'll do it when the brakes are hot, or after a round with the torch.
