heres whats happening:
Done the usual tests for head gasket failure - no oil in coolant, no coolant in oil, no white smoke on start up and no hard starting when cold. Head gasket was replaced about 2.5 or 3 years ago.
I am running a few performance mods and boost to 20psi.
After car (1988 900 Aero) is at op. temp and after a drive I see the coolant reservoir is a little foamy and bubbles are coming from that smaller supply hose from radiator. If i increase throttle manually I can see more bubbles in a stream from this hose.
The coolant expansion tank had the level at half between min and max when cold. When i checked it after a 3 hour drive today it was at the max level! There are no signs of coolant leak at turbo or anywhere else and doesnt appear im loosing coolant over time.
The car never overheats when operating, in fact at a constant cruise on a freeway the temp gauge shows just under 1/4!! In stop start traffic it gets to a touch over halfway and never beyond.
There were a few signs of coolant leak around the coolant expansion reservoir cap (new cap 6 months ago).
The plugs are the normal grey type colour.
I have recently blown two hoses tho - both have splits. The top radiator (split near mid clamp and underneath) hose at radiator side (this was replaced 4 years ago) and also the top heater hose (signs of the rubber failed from crud thrown up by V-belts) right at heater control/firewall end).
Car is preforming well in all other aspects and no signs of white smoke when cold or even at op temp.... but was thinking the "cruise" temperature was a little low?
any thoughts on what else to check or am i being unneccesarily paranoid?
cheers from down under for any suggestions!!
