$800 wow. Just for pulling the valve cover and a cam and drop in a cam follower/lifter. 3 hours labor is more than enough(1-2) if no problems.
But first, I would try some magic potions: 4 oz of trans fluid, marvel mystery oil, etc. You might just have a classic sticky lifter. I am curious why you run 20w50 molasses rather than 10w30? I would try some 5w30 when you put in the potion and run the car hard and the clog might break loose and the lifter free up. A synthetic oil might also help, but that could cause the front and rear main crankshaft seals to leak slightly. If the noise continues after running the potion, I'm pretty sure you can find an independent tech to do the job for much less or tackle it yourself once you have the manual. This is well within the skill levels of 90% of the people on this bb.
