You can teach yourself how to drive a stick. Just let the clutch out nice and slow while giving gas at the same time. Don't let the clutch out too fast(otherwise known as popping the clutch.) If you don't give it enough gas you will kill it no matter how slow you let the clutch out.
I remember learning a stick on my Aunts BMW 2002. It had a new clutch and I kept killing the engine. I wasn't giving it enough gas but I didn't realize that at the time and I was getting frustrated. My Aunt didn't really know what I was doing wrong. Then my mom was teaching me on her car and she didn't realize that I was trying to start in 3rd gear. Boy that was really frustraiting. It probally would have been easier to learn own my own without the bad instruction but I did get some practice on other peoples cars.
What that other guy said about being able to roll start a stick has come in handy. I use to try 1st gear for that until I was told that 2nd works much better for roll starting. Also I just lost 2nd gear on my old manual tranny but I can still drive using all the other gears. I don't know how this would work in an auto?
Good luck, KB.
