let me ask you this...when you watch formula 1 - or any racing sport for that matter - do you have it on mute?! unreal that you could possibly think that they don't downshift. of course they downshift! if anything - that's one of the most easily recognizable car racing sports to identify it. listen to the engines! true they don't have clutches now...just buttons. but they are still downshifting. you think they actually just slam on the brakes until the car is at a reasonable speed - then throw it in a gear coming out of the turn? if they did that - then no one would ever finish a race. they'd all be dnf most likely. you need power through the turns. otherwise you'll slide out. you're right that it's used to match rpms. if you're really coming hot into a turn - that's when double-clutching can help. i am not discounting in any sense that brakes are cheaper to replace that a tranny. they are. but i will never stop downshifting and double-clutching - nor do i see that as a problem. an even better example is older car races. before every turn you will see the backfire from every car. that's not just there for shits and giggles. i'm not trying to be rude here - it's just that i've been tested on this subject before with friends and such. so...that's my extra 2 cents. that ups the pot to 4 cents. ante up?
