91-93 have the TE-05 turbo. Both my '92s do. I think having a filter screen (no drain plug) is superior. It is just a few 8mm (12mm hex heads) bolts to remove the diff cover to drain it. This way, you get to clean the filter, remove debris from teh bottom of the case AND all are larger pinion bearing from the factory (not as large as the Ericksson 're-do' bearing, though. Compression numbers are pretty subjective. It is up to teh calibration of teh gage, voltage of the battery spinning the engine, starter motor health, position of the throttle plate, etc. Biggest piece of info is having all compresson numbers and being able to verify them. Also it would be good that it has not sat for motnths/years. Usually, the center 2 cylinders are a couple psi down from 1 and 4. Basically, though, you will not know what you have until you run it for a while. It is ALWAYS a gamble. And all that work to put the engine on a tranny then into teh car may have to be redone. The saving grace is that Saab engines are pretty hardy as a group. anything <100kmi should be good!
