I stagger the wires, use solderless connectors (crimped metal tubes) and use shrink tubing to cover the individual connections, with a larger diameter shrink tubing over the whole thing. All available at Radio Shack. I try to keep the overall length of the wires the same as someone told me that was important, others on this board suggest it does not matter, I stick with personal experience on about a dozen replacements over the years in VWs and SAABs.
