Hello All:
I have finally completed the transplant of a 1993 900T 16 valve engine in my 1986 900T 16 valve car. I think I have all of the wires hooked up correctly. The problem is I'm not getting any sparks from the coil spark plug wire. Here is what I have: I have 12 volts to the coil. I have 12 volts to the distributor connector. I have voltage to the ignition module. When checking for voltage at the distributor, I'm checking it at the two outer pins (the brown wire (number 3 and and the shield wire nuber 3, see Bentley page 371-85) which gives me 12 volts. I'm wondering if the 1993 distributor is different from the 1986 distributor. I have notice that there is a ground wire on the outside of the distributor to the 1993 distributor-if so, where should this wire hook up to?
Could someone look at the disgram in the Bentley and give me some advice. The two wiring diagrams I'm referring to are on pages 371-85 for the 1986 ingition system and the wiring diagram on page 371-86 wiring diagram for 1988 and later. By the way, I'm using the wiring from the 1986. I spliced in a new connector to the old wiring to fit the 1993 distributor.
I have tried putting in at least three different known working module. I have tried two different coil. I'm suspecting the distributor but it has only 50,000 miles on it. The system has really three components--coil, distributor with hall effect, and the ignition module--of course all of the wiring correctly installed. I believe the ignition module on the 1986 should work on the 1993 distributor, correct?
Note: When cranking the engine--I get no sparks. However, when I turn the key in the ignition back and forth without turning the engine, see one spark. But there is no spark when turning the engine.
There are several black wires on the engine lift on top the the block. I believe these are ground wires for the fuel ejection. Most are black wire with the exception of two. Two of them are brown in color. Are these wires connected with the ignition system--causing a no spark situation?
I may have to try and put back the old distributor. The only problem is I will have to splice in back a new connector for the 1986 distributor. Many thanks for any help. george.
