not sure how they can significantly affect ride hight, but worn bushings will cause a delay in the transfer of movement from the control arm into the shock body, so you would get a harsh movement and noise as the slack is taken up, then additional harsh movement on the rebound action. The shock would get confused and ride suffers as the shock is slightly out of phase with the wheel action due to slop in the bushing.

I was about to replace the shocks in the front of my C900 when Jim at sobstory suggested red poly bushings. That did the trick, new shocks would have also as they come with new bushings, but the bushings are cheaper and only took 10 minutes per side. The movement of the shock is now better timed with the wheel movement as it hits a bump and rebounds, no more sharp jolts or crashing into holes. You don't have to go poly although I recommend it, stock bushings will be an improvement also. Do your sway bar ends at the same time as long as you are in there.

92 900S 5sp 178,780 miles (and still commuting 105 miles per day!)
