Good luck with the LandCruiser. This weekend I helped a friend put a new rear brake caliper on his LandCruiser. The dealer wanted $1500 to do the job. It would have been money well spent. The guzzler gets about 9 mpg, so his annual fuel bill is about $3000... if he's burning that much money on just gasoline, I would have thought that money would have been no object.
Can't say I agree with you regarding the GM influence. My post-GM 9-5 is a fantastic car... the days of hand crafted Saabs like the C900 are gone forever. That's modern economics. I'm sure that in 10 years, this board will have numerous postings about people getting 300K+ miles in their post-GM Saabs.
Also can't say I agree about American cars. My Dad's Dodge has 240K and has only had common maintenance, like brakes and exhaust. Ditto for my '92 Ford F150 with 150K. Give 'em a chance and you might be pleasantly surprised.
