Re: tail lights staying on Posted by RS [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: tail lights staying on, Wasaabi ![]() ![]() |
It sounds like one of the mounting ears on the brakelight switch is broken and the spring-loading in the switch is pushing it out to the ON position.
In the interum, pull the brake light fuse if you're not driving.
It is *possible* to replace the switch with the lower dash is on. But if you haven't replaced one before with the lower dash off, it's difficult.
To replace the switch with the lower dash on (I used this method at an interstate rest area in Southern PA):
Buy the new switch (of course)
Push the seat back all the way
undo the torx screw for the heat distribution duct, gently bend the duct out of the way
Feel around for the very HOT switch.
Yank on the switch until the remaining ear brakes. Remember the position of the switch.
Pull the connector off the old switch.
(Push connector onto new switch. Gently push the new switch into the new position. Rebolt the heater duct.)
Put antibacterial salve on the cuts and scrapes that have mysteriously appeared on your arm.
Go to chiropractor for twisted back.
If you don't have time to get one from one of the sponsors by mailorder, I found that a large NAPA will often have the switches for around $10.
