If your car hasn't had a tune-up in awhile, I would suspect that your spark plug gap has eroded or your distributor rotor is bad. Try regapping plugs to 0.024" and see if that fixes it, first. Or just give the car a tuneup with new plugs, rotor, cap, and wires(?). Also check for vacuum leaks and that your grounds are clean. You might also check your timing, if advanced too much, you can get hesitation that is not knock related as well as knock sensor related.
