Seized Oil Pump...

Greetings,
I am new to the "old-Saab" experience and am trying to revive a neglected 1982 900 Turbo. The previous owner says "it lost oil pressure so we parked it"... It sat for nine years, and now I have it.
I have the oil pump out and it is seized. Both gears are broken and the flats in the inner gear are basically gone. The apparent sequence of events was this:
- oil pumps gears stopped turning, but crank was still turning
- the gears fracture due to large forces pushing out because the "round" section of the crank rotates into the "flats" section in the inner gear.
Also, one of the bottom bolts that hold the oil pump housing to the timing cover was stripped.
Has anybody seen this before?
My theory is that the stripped bolt made the pump lose its seal, then lose its prime, run dry, get hot and seize. Sound likely?
Next question: where to get another oil pump? Does it need to be a new pump, or would a used one be safe enough?
Thanks alot for any help. This site has been a big help already, but I couldn't find any discussion of failed oil pumps... (I can post a picture if anybody wants to see my busted pump.)
Thanks,
Eric Adams
