Used it, some options.... Posted by Walt [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Anyone used "dynamat" on their floors? If so....???, Todd N, Mon, 11 Nov 2002 13:43:59 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I replaced the floor in my '88 SPG, which rusted from the inside out...I also painted the floor with Zero Rust (similar to POR 15). Then I used Dynamat to replace the factory tar-like sound deadener. It was slightly thinner than the original, But I hope it performs better due to its hi-tech formulation (and hi-tech price!)?? I COULD have used 'Weather Guard" water proofing material for a fraction of the cost. It's meant for roofs on houses in areas prone to water seepage. It's also a tar-like layer, which may (or may not) work as well as Dynamat. But anyway, I then used a layer of foil backed foam insulation on top of the Dynamat. It was purchased from a street rod store (RT in Coopersburg, Pa). Figured it added some sound and heat insulation...Still used the factory foam insulation on top...it drains, dries, and pads better then Dynamat.
I second other's opinions on adding insul to other areas...wheelwells, etc. I think you should concentrate there, if your goal is to reduce sound levels. I even read of someone stuffing foam into the roof pillars behind the rear side windows...claimed it prevented sound being channeled up from the trunk area...
