My opinion... buy it..... here's why!

First off, for me to make a good judgement, I'd have to know the price. But if it was obviously low enough to be fair, and I have the extra cash on me. It must be reasonable since you're looking at it, and know the amount of damage though..
I'd have to buy it! Here are my two reasons...
#1) That is a very rare and beautiful edition. Simply for that fact that if you don't repair the car, it will never be repaired. Most likely it will be sent to the crusher just weeks from now. Part of SAAB's heritage will be destroyed, or parted out. They can't remake a 1988 Springtime in Sweden to replace the one that is sitting there, begging for a little lovin. It's gone from the planet. In a very "Modest Proposal" type of methaphor, it would be like forgetting about a family member's medical treatment who is sick, and letting your family, and people you don't know keep parts of them, yuck. Ha, I told you it was "Modest Proposal".
#2) It would be fun. You don't necessarily have to actively work on it day by day by day. You have a daily driver, be fortunate. Use your daily driver. Tinker when you want to. It will be 100X more satisfying to bring a Springtime in Sweden back to life, much rather than a 900T, even an SPG in my humble opinion.
Not to mention, 1st one made.... how much better can it get? If you want to talk about signs for you to go fix her up, I'd call that one! Now if it was number 98 (nothing signifigant), there might be a different story. Hey, I said MIGHT ( ;
I'd say suck it up, fix it up, because you can never wait for another "better" car to roll around. GM is under control now. You're looking at pure Trollhattan with the SiS.
My final thought, which I hope convinces you if the others don't....
How happy will it feel to drive that #1 of 288 SiS on a nice sunny day with the top down hitting the boost, knowing that it's all because of you? I'm sure even head engineer, Gunnar Ljungström, of the SAAB 92001 (aka 92) project, would give you a pat on the back for completeing such a task.
Good luck with your decision!
Happy SAABing,
Taylor
