Sorry, I have not had to install a chain yet, a couple of valve cover damper pads though! However, in the process of a new headgasket, I investegated the chain issue, but did not have to deal with it, because my tensioner was only extended 3mm.

Anyway, the roll in master link chain method will give you a new chain and is a fairly easy job. The issue according to a tech friend is that the lower sprocket can get worn and the new chain will soon get beat up by the bad sprocket. This tech also puts in new continuous chains and sprockets without removing the engine. But you do have to remove the crank pulley, timing cover, etc to get to the sprocket and chain. Far more work than a roll in chain from above. Maybe someone else on the board knows, or just ask a good Saab tech about the pros and cons of the roll in method.
