John:

Thanks for starting this thread. I thought that I was nuts - but it looks like there are alot of people out there that love the older 900's. Here's my story.

I have been running 9000's for the past 8 years. Have had three turbos; and two n/a 16v. Three were autos and two were sticks. (My wife has had a 900/9.3 model Saab since the mid 80's).

Last week, while at the NAPA store for a piece of fuel injection hose for my son's 9000, I spied an '86 900S on the side of the building with a "For Sale" sign on it. The store owner was selling the car for a neighbor - a 90 year old couple, who were the original owners. The car had 101K miles and ALL original. Always garaged and always serviced at the local Saab dealer.

The store woner stated that the car had been sitting for about 3 months but after three tries it fired-up and purred at idle. I took the car for a spin - sure it's not nearly as fast as the 9000 turbo (5spd) that I now drive - it was GREAT!!!! The car handles significantly better (IMHO) that the 9000; has a smoother ride; and wasn't that slow.

To make a long story short, I bought the car and will be using it for my daily driver atleast through the winter. My wife and son think that I'm nuts. My son says" Pop - you're going the wrong way. "The cars are supposed to get newer not older".

While it's only been a week, the only thing that appears to be wrong is the characteristic headliner droop. But, hell I've done atleast 3 of those.

From what I've seen on the Saabnet classifieds, I should be able to get another 100k miles without a problem. Hell, you can't get that from most new cars!
Just my story.
